A Little Light Reading

Release month is a hard month. Readers are anxious to get their hands on a new book. Authors are anxious about whether the book is perfect or ready for readers. And then of course, through all this, said author is supposed to be working on the next book.

I haven’t gotten quite as far as I wanted to be for book 3 of Unbreakable Bonds, but Rinda and I have made some nice headway.

And in between all the usual chaos of life, I try to sneak in a little reading.  I haven’t been able to read as much as I would like recently and I have to admit that my choices have been spread all over the place.

However, as you wait for the release of Shatter (just 11 days away now!), I thought I would share a few of the books that I’ve enjoyed recently.reading

Rose Daughter by Robin McKinley – I first fell in love with Robin McKinley when I reader her Outlaws of Sherwood. I also have a weakness for Beauty and the Beast retellings. Her Beauty is wonderful and I loved her second retelling of the fairy tale with Rose Daughter. She has a stunning grasp of language and I love the way she artfully weaves magic through this book.

Sticking with the magic theme, I recently read Omega in the Shadows by Zoe Perdita. This is a m/m shifter series. I think this one intrigued me so much because the heroes were so damaged. In addition, it’s interesting to see the growth of the characters because neither man is what you’d call your typical “hero”. I am planning to pick up the next book in this series.

A final book that I’d like to mention is Here for You by Skylar M. Cates. It’s a m/m contemporary romance, but let me give you a warning that it’s a big heavy emotionally. I don’t know about you, but I have to prep myself for these reads. I love books that deal with heavy emotions, but I have to know I’m heading into one. I’ve had some bad encounters when I’ve been surprised. It’s a great book and I want to pop in for the next book in this series. But it follows the lives of several men in one house living together, them finding their way through a traumatic event, and one of them finding love.

So happy reading this weekend!

And don’t forget to prep for the release of Shatter! There’s lots of free shorts and excerpts. It’s best to start here with the Guide.
