Jocelynn asked me if I could pick some swoon worthy movie/TV heroes and I really had a hard time coming up with a list. Yes, I love heroes like Daniel Craig (Oh man, the chaps in Cowboys and Aliens), Viggo Mortenson (Aragorn–he was perfect for Aragorn.), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine!), and Vin Deisel (LOVE Pitch Black!).
But often, I tend to like characters who aren’t considered the main heartthrob. For instance, I’ve been watching Teen Wolf and yeah, Derek is gorgeous and I certainly wouldn’t kick him out of bed, but I don’t get why the teen girls aren’t falling hard for Stiles. In real life, they’re smarter and get that he’s pretty awesome, but boy, he has trouble on the show!
He grows into such a fantastic character. Sometimes, he reminds me a little of Christian Slater–mostly the voice. Too young for me, yeah, but he’s swoon worthy.
And speaking of too young for me heroes? Tim Riggins in Friday Night Lights actually inspired me to write my YA trilogy and was the inspiration for Vanir in FORETOLD.
So, in movies, usually there is something different about the hero that gets to me. For instance,
Arliss Howard in Men Don’t Leave. This is an old movie–1990–and it’s about grief and the complete turn a family’s life can take when one member unexpectedly dies. It’s heartbreaking, yet wonderful. Arliss Howard’s character was fantastic. I was really young when I saw the movie and just remember falling hard for his character..
Say Anything. Another one that came out when I was really young, but this one is so easy. I don’t know that many girls who didn’t fall for Lloyd Dobler.
I liked Ryan Reynolds in The Proposal. He was gorgeous and funny and sexy! Okay, he is in a lot of his movies and in Blade Trinity? WOW.
I find James McAvoy sexy in most everything. I even modeled a character in my book ORIGINafter him. But I LOVED him in this movie like crazy.
I keep saying I don’t enjoy BDSM, yet there are times, when an author shows me that this is something a character really enjoys and even needs, I can enjoy the story. I loved the hell out of this movie.
I don’t usually like the controlling hero at all. I won’t even watch the new Mr. Grey in a more recent movie, but I liked this Mr. Grey. There was a vulnerability to his character that came through–especially later in the film.
