Abe Stephens had plans as a kid. Big ones. In high school, he aced classes, was on the fast road to a great college, then got his girlfriend pregnant on their prom night. They were married and parents at eighteen, and though his plans were slowed down, Abe couldn’t regret it. He loves Shane fiercely and did from the first moment he held him. He ended up getting a degree in accounting, but it took him nearly twice as long to graduate because he had to go to school part time. He also worked for his father’s accounting firm, so the change in degree plans made sense.
Patricia Stephens changed as an adult. She’d been a spoiled, rich teen, and the years they lived hand to mouth with a small child made her bitter. Abe loved her and worked long hours to keep her living the way she liked, which was above their means. This caused his relationship to suffer with Shane later. She still left them when Shane was 12 and she died young.
Abe’s family accounting business took a massive hit in the financial crisis and never recovered. Abe had managed to set aside a personal savings—enough to keep him doing taxes part time and leaving him free to work on furniture. He likes to hand carve chairs and having discovered an artistic side late in life, he’s also built up a decent side business creating whimsical window frames.
His son, Shane has happily settled down with a man, and Abe’s feeling lonely. He’s known that he’s bisexual his whole life, but never explored that side of himself. Patricia did a number on his heart and Shane’s anger at him had made him feel Shane deserved all his attention once she left. Now, he feels a little foolish for his inexperience at his age.
He’s content with his quiet life and though he’s attracted to his new friend, Dominic–who has made it plain he’s interested in more than friendship–Abe feels their 18 year age difference is too big a hurdle. He’s not about to saddle the 32 year old with a man who’s about to turn 50. But Dom is the sexiest and most determined man and Abe just may decide it’s time to live a little and enjoy something special.

Ten years ago, Dominic Walsh faked his own death. With no true identity, it wasn’t hard. But if he’d stayed, he would have been drawn further into a life he’d never chosen. He has friends and family at Ward Security now and has managed to escape his dark past. There is only one thing he truly wants.
Abraham Stephens.
When Dom was first tasked with watching over his friend’s father, he didn’t expect to fall so hard for the gorgeous silver fox. But Abe is interested in friendship only. He’s at a point in his life where he wants something permanent, not a romp with the sexy redhead who happens to be the same age as his son.
But Abe finds himself drawn deeper into Dom’s life when cryptic messages start appearing—ones that frighten the skilled security specialist. The more Dom tries to hide what’s happening, the more Abe wants to help him.
And maybe, just maybe, he’ll find a way to trust the strength of the bond Dom understood from the start.
